Locals: Teams from Canfield and Howland will compete.
The skinny: Canfield was second in last week’s sectional at Tamer Win Golf & Country Club with an 18-hole composite score of 333, trailing only Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. Geneva (347) was third and Howland (356) was the fourth and final team qualifier. ... Michele Whiteleather (80 at Tamer Win last week), Christina Cooper (81), Lianna Tucci (83), Olivia DeMartino (89) and Kerra Loomis (92) make up the Canfield quintet. Tucci is the Cardinals’ lone senior. Whiteleather and DeMartino are juniors and Cooper and Loomis are sophomores. ... Howland’s team includes Angelica Maggio (83), Haleigh Guerrero (87), Hannah Buzulencia (90), Mo Preston (96) and Sarah Brindley (101). Guerrero is a senior, Brindley is a freshman and the other three Tigers are juniors. ... Geneva is led by sectional medalist and 2011 Ohio Division I state tournament medalist Danielle Nicholson, who established a course record for females at Tamer Win with a round of 4-under par 69. Nicholson, 15, is a sophomore. “We’re pleased that such a kind and humble young woman like Danielle is playing so well,” said DEborah Rura, Tamer Win director of golf. “We wish her all the best as she continues her season.”
