Published: Tue, October 9, 2012 @ 8:25 a.m.

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Local dog lovers, in partnership with 2 Million Dogs, a national nonprofit organization working to support comparative oncology and educate the public about the common links between cancer in humans and companion animals, will be in the area from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday to do outreach and share lifesaving information as part of its Summer of Murphy Tour.

The event will be in Zambelli Park, corner of Washington and Mill Streets. Rain option will be Lanigan’s across the street, 126 E. Washington St.

2 Million Dogs co-founder Luke Robinson, who will be accompanied by his dogs Hudson and Indiana, will speak to dog lovers and local supporters about the early warning signs of canine cancer and share information about the links between canine and human cancers.

The project treats shelter dogs with mammary tumors and then studies tissues to understand how breast cancer metastasizes in women.
