3 WCBA alumni to receive awards

YOUNGSTOWN

The Warren P. Williamson Jr. College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University has announced recipients of its 2012 WCBA Outstanding Alumni Awards: Frank Hierro, 1977, Outstanding Business Alumnus; Eric Shuster, MBA 2005, Outstanding MBA Alumnus; and Kimberly Pleva, BSBA ’00, MBA 2005, Outstanding Recent Alumna.

The recipients will be honored at the 17th Annual WCBA Alumni Banquet at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 in Williamson Hall at YSU.

Hierro has been regional president for the Mahoning Valley Region of Huntington National Bank in Youngstown since 1999. He manages the banking activity and operations for six counties in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Hierro, who has been with Huntington Bank and its predecessor banks since 1978, has served as chairman of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp. and the Youngstown-Mahoning United Way annual campaign. Hierro serves on the boards of the YSU Foundation, the Youngstown Business Incubator, Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp. and the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp. He is a cum laude graduate of YSU.

Shuster is general manager of steelmaking and MPM pipe-mill operations at V&M Star. Shuster oversees the Youngstown multi-stand pipe-mill facility with specific responsibility for steelmaking and retained mandrel pipe-mill operations. V&M Star is a subsidiary of Vallourec Group, a world leader in premium tubular solutions primarily serving the energy markets, as well as other industrial applications. Shuster began his career with the company (formerly North Star Steel) in 1988.

Pleva is division human- resource manager for Parker Hannifin Corp. She joined the company in 1999 and recently was promoted to the company’s Hose Products Division in Wickliffe, Ohio. This position provides human-resources leadership to nine facilities with about 1,500 employees. Pleva also is the leader of a team of 10 human-resources professionals, providing all aspects of human resources and organization development support and leadership. Until 2005, Pleva was assistant human-resources manager for the Gear Pump Division of Parker Hannifin in Youngstown, where her responsibility was to provide support for two manufacturing facilities and division headquarters with 300 employees.
