Driver burned

WARREN

A Garrettsville woman was seriously burned during a flash fire caused when she lit a cigarette in a car that had a spilled gas can in her truck, according to a fire department report.

The woman was in her car in the North River Road NE parking lot of Renaissance North nursing home at 4:41 p.m. Friday when she lit the cigarette, the fire report reads. The combination of lighting the cigarette and the spilled gas caused the fire. She was taken for treatment at St. Joseph Health Center. Her condition isn’t known.

Fatal ATV crash

WEST MIDDLESEZ, PA.

A 23-year-old New Wilmington, Pa., woman died in an ATV accident in a wooded area along Riethmiller Road in Lackawannock Township.

The Pennsylvania State Police said Santana M. Riethmiller died as a result of accidentally driving an ATV into a fence post at 11:18 p.m. Friday.

Lordstown

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, will headline a Tuesday rally at Lordstown Village Park in support of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.

Those attending will be permitted to enter the park, which is located at the intersection of state Route 45 and Salt Springs Road, at 1 p.m. The rally will begin at 2 p.m.

Tickets will be available online at www.romneyoh.com beginning today.

After the rally, Christie, who’ll be making his first visit to the Mahoning Valley, will join Romney at Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium for a rally at 7:25 p.m.

While campaigning in Fargo, N.D., on Saturday, Christie mentioned the North Dakota State-Youngstown State university football game.

“Come on, you guys are the Bison. They’re the Penguins,” Christie said, referring to the teams’ sports names. “Mercy, man, mercy. Mercy on the Penguins, for goodness sakes.”

In the battle of the previously unbeaten teams, the Bison had no mercy on the Penguins this year, crushing YSU 48-7.

Abortion videos

YOUNGSTOWN

A truck with video billboards of aborted fetuses and the phrase “VOTE PRO-LIFE on November 6, 2012,” will be on Central Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. Created Equal and Operation Rescue, two anti-abortion organizations, are sponsoring the visit, which is part of a tour of eight presidential swing states. Created Equal said in a press release that the graphic display is aimed at stopping abortions, registering voters and encouraging anti-abortion supporters to vote. It described the video billboards as “controversial.”

$10K reward

LISBON

Several organizations are offering a reward of nearly $10,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for burning a calf alive. Anyone with information should contact the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office at 330-424-1104.
