The winning artwork in this year’s First Night Youngstown button competition is the first in what will be a series depicting downtown architecture.
Chris Yambar and Tony Nicholas teamed up to create the work that will be on admission buttons at the 13th annual New Year’s Eve entertainment event downtown. Their drawing depicts the Ohio One building on East Boardman Street, with fireworks bursting overhead.
The First Night Youngs-town committee unveiled the winning entry Friday. The buttons are available for $10, which grants admission to all venues, at firstnight-youngstownoh.com, and at the FNY office in Suite 405 of the Ohio One building.
Yambar is an artist and comic-book creator, who has his own line of independent comics and also works on The Simpsons and Spongebob Squarepants nameplates. Nicholas is a photographer and owner of Downforce Imaging.
In explaining the decision to create a series of buttons based on downtown buildings, Elayne Bozick, marketing chairperson for FNY, said any city’s architecture is what gives it its specific look.
