2 women nabbed in burglaries in Girard

Staff report

Two women were arrested and charged in connection with a string of burglaries in the city.

Police said Sarah M. Capaldi, 23, of Girard, is facing five counts of burglary and one count of breaking and entering, while Tera M. Welsh, 26, of Boardman, is facing one count of attempted burglary.

The women were arrested in Girard Municipal Court this week after warrants and charges were filed on Sept. 28.

Police believe Capaldi and Welsh are responsible for five burglaries that occurred from Aug. 8 to Sept. 15.

The burglaries took place on East Wilson Avenue, Townsend Avenue, Taylor Avenue and South Davis Street.

Police said they found Welsh’s Social Security card and handbag by the home on Taylor Avenue.

Police said both women were burglarizing homes to support their heroin addiction.

Capaldi’s bail was set at $100,000, while Welsh’s was set at $15,000. Their preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday in Girard Municipal Court.
