WARREN

A public dedication ceremony will be 11 a.m. Monday to unveil an Ohio Historical Marker to commemorate the Civil War training camp that was established in Warren at the start of the war in 1861.

It will be at Warren G. Harding High School, 860 Elm Road NE. The camp was located on the Trumbull County Fairgrounds at the site of the present day Harding High School.

It is a 150th anniversary program to mark the history of local participation in the events of 1861 to 1865.

According to Wendell Lauth, Trumbull County historian, the site was active in the fall of 1861 to prepare a unit to serve under the banner of the 6th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Regiment.

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin, Lauth and Harding High School’s marching band and chorus will participate in the event.
