Boardman 120s lose lead, game
The 120-pound Spartans (4-3) lost a well-fought battle against the LaBrae Vikings, losing 22-8 last Sunday.
Zander Schobel, Ethen Elder and Haden Lyda led the defensive stand for the Spartans. The blocking of the offensive line and the running attack of Timmy Bowser led to Hunter Needhams’ second-quarter score.
The conversion by Bowser gave the Spartans an 8-0 lead at the half. But the Vikings capitalized on two Boardman turnovers in the second half to score 22 unanswered points.
Boardman heavyweights lose in final minute
The 140-pounders (4-3) played LaBrae to a scoreless tie until the final minute when the Vikings scored off a 25-yard counter play with just 35 seconds remaining in the game to secure a 6-0 victory.
Boardman was able to hold the Vikings to few yards for most of the game. LaBrae attempted to establish a passing game, but was shut down by Boardman cornerbacks Desmond Crenshaw and Dylan Gursky and safety Nick Yallech. Boardman led in first downs, but could not punch it in for a score.
The Spartans teams will travel to Struthers tomorrow.
