Cardinal Mooney High tennis player Gianna Reider has advanced to the Division II sectional tournament singles semifinals.
Teammates Hallie Yerian and Kacey Haggerty are one win away from joining her after the first day of tournament play at Boardman High.
In the quarterfinals Wednesday, Reider defeated Struthers’ Alex Wildes (6-0, 6-1).
Today, Haggerty will face Lakeview’s Emily Soles in one of three quarterfinals to be played. Yerian will play West Branch’s Darya Doronina and Brookfield’s Autumn Kirila will battle Warren JFK’s Lauren Lee in the other quarterfinals.
In doubles at Volney Rogers in Youngstown, teams from Mooney, Struthers, Warren JFK and Poland won quarterfinal matches.
Mooney’s Dominique Cicchi-Jamie DiDomenico defeated Warren JFK’s Chandler Shoaf-Rachel Pinti (6-0, 6-1). Struthers’ Anastasia Cardarelli-Missy Soldressen ousted West Branch’s Madeline Mitchell-Anna Dillon (6-0, 6-1). Warren JFK’s Megan Guliano-Marla Stroup defeated Lakeview’s Emily Kohut-Sasha Pavlenko (7-5, 7-5). Poland’s Elise Eckman-Cara Palusak defeated West Branch’s Sienna Oswalt-Shaynna Jarvis (6-0, 6-0).
The semifinals and finals will be played on Saturday.
Top-seeded Allison Pavlansky of Canfield and the other three seeds have advanced to the Div. I singles semifinals.
In the quarterfinals, Pavlansky defeated Louisville’s Sam Pukys (6-1, 6-1).
Saturday, Pavlansky will face third-seeded Katherine McCauley of Uniontown Lake. In the other semifinal, Massillon Jackson’s Tessa Hill (second seed) will take on Green’s Danielle Beyes (fourth seed).
In doubles, Canfield’s Paige Zwicker-Stephanie Carrocce defeated Green’s Addie Hujar-Rachel Bindreiter (6-0, 6-0). The second-seeded Cardinals team will face North Canton Hoover’s Natalie Bourlas-Nicolette Bourlas in the semifinals.
