Poland’s Sines qualifies for state golf tourney

Poland’s Rachel Sines made a birdie on the first playoff hole to earn a trip to the state golf tournament.

Sines, Vermilion’s Jessica Lardie and Crestwood’s Gina Harmon qualified as individuals for the state tournament at Tuesday’s Division II District Tournament at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course.

Hawken, Hathaway Brown and Laurel qualified as teams.

Lardie and Harmon both shot 82. Sines shot an 83 and defeated Canton Central Catholic’s Michelee Vlacovsky and Lakeview’s Kaylee Neumeister in the playoff.

Hathaway Brown’s Ashley Yarbrough shot a 72 for the best score.

Sines tied for fourth while Poland’s Melinda Hannon shot 86 to tie for eighth and Hubbard’s Gina DePasquale shot 87 for 10th.

The state tournament is Oct. 12-13 at Ohio State’s Gray Course.
