The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering an Ovarian Cancer Awareness event Tuesday at 6 p.m. Spearheaded by the Rosemary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation, the events featured speaker is Dr. Kristen K. Zorn, a surgical oncologist specializing in gynecological and ovarian cancers and an assistant professor in gynecologic oncology at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC in Pittsburgh.

Red Cross open house
The Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is having two volunteer open houses and information sessions Friday at its headquarters at 661 Mahoning Ave. N.W. One is from noon to 1:30 p.m. at which a light lunch will be served, and the other is from 2:30 to 4 p.m. with cookies and coffee.
Volunteers are needed for local, regional and national work. All Red Cross disaster training is free. For information and to register, call 330-392-2551.
Dr. Ted Suzelis is offering a free “CEASE Therapy for Autism” seminar at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at his office, 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite D-3. CEASE, which stands for Complete Elimination of Autistic Spectrum Expression, is a therapy of homeopathically detoxifying the body of specific medications, vaccinations, and other substances that may have been factors in a child developing autism.

Children of Haiti fundraiser
Akron Children’s Hospital will focus attention on the children of Haiti with two events Oct. 12.
The Rev. Rick Frechette, an internationally known physician, priest, author and advocate for the children of Haiti, is the keynote speaker at the hospital’s Global Health Conference from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Considine Professional Building, 215 W. Bowery St.
That evening, Akron Children’s Pediatric Global Health Center is having a fundraiser to benefit St. Damien’s Hospital, a children’s hospital in Port-au-Prince. The hospitals have an affiliation agreement and doctors and nurses from Akron Children’s visit St. Damien’s to provide care and develop programs. Frechette is the Haiti director for Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos which oversees St. Damien’s.
The event, a dinner and silent auction, begins at 6 p.m. at St. Nicholas Banquet Center, 755 S. Cleveland Ave., Mogadore. Tickets are $75 per person or a corporate table for eight is $1,000. Otolaryngologist Dr. Wayland Wong is offering a free sinus treatment seminar on Oct. 23 at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave. At 6:30 p.m., participants can view displays and complete a sinus-screening assessment form. At 7 p.m., Dr. Wong will present “New Trends in Sinus Treatment.” Light refreshments will be provided, and participants can register for door prizes that may be helpful in providing sinus symptom relief.
