Police retrieved numerous bullets and other evidence Monday afternoon from the west side home where a Youngstown man was fatally shot Saturday night, Chief Robert Stell told the Star beacon of Ashtabula.
“We believe (the bullets) were involved in the incident,” he said, noting police executed a search warrant to get inside the residence at 918 W. 37th St.
Dawaun Davis, 22, of Youngstown died of a single gunshot to the neck outside of the house, said Richard Mongell, the Ashtabula County coroner’s chief investigator.
Police believe the incident started at about 6 p.m. Saturday in front of the West 37th Street home and it escalated into a violent altercation with gunshots being fired more than 20 times, according to police reports.
When police arrived Saturday night, they discovered Davis down on the ground with a fatal gunshot wound. Neighbors stood outside watching as law enforcement descended on the area.
The second gunman fled the scene, but didn’t get far, police said. He was on West 38th Street in front of Union Missionary Baptist Church, with bullet wounds to the leg and buttocks, police said.
Police are not releasing his name because the incident is still under investigation, Stell said.
He was hospitalized over the weekend in MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. He now is home from the hospital, sources said.

Ashtabula has really gone down hill and has been for many years.
But I don't think HulksterStan has the right to judge Ashtabula like Youngstown is some drug free oasis. Youngstown is just as miserable as Ashtabula as are cities all over America.
It's not the towns/cities. It's the scum who live there because people no longer raise a family. They give birth to cute little babies and then let them loose into the wild to survive on their own with no discipline and no direction. A family of 5 kids got 4 different baby daddies and momma seems proud that she got so many different ones. She gets all POd when her baby daddy don't act like no man and take care a his kids but she needs to act like a woman and stop spreading herself so thin. Kids today are disgusting, moral free, selfish, violent scum suckers because their parents are such trash.

Ashtabula used to be a nice quiet little ethnic town until the outsiders moved in. I had a friend who had a boat up there and we would enjoy the "Harbor" area on some weekend trips. It sure is a different town today...wasteland is more like it. But the Harbor area is still pretty nice.
Now who would have guessed this type of crime Ashtabula...a quiet place once upon a time where nothing ever happened?
