Woman charged in theft from Warren Health Dept.

Staff report

Holly Montecalvo, 44, of Willard Street has been charged with felony theft in office for purportedly stealing about $500 from her job at the Warren Health Department.

Montecalvo, who has worked for the city since June 18, 2001, has worked for the health department as a public-health clinician in medical coding and billing since Nov. 15, 2011, according to the Warren Human Resources office.

Montecalvo was placed on paid administrative leave Sept. 21 and then on unpaid leave Monday.

Montecalvo pleaded innocent Friday in Warren Municipal Court to theft in office and was released after posting $2,500 bond. Her case has been transferred to Judge Thomas Townley of Niles Municipal Court because of a possible conflict of interest with the judges in Warren Municipal Court.

If convicted, Montecalvo could get up to 12 months in prison.

The Warren Police Department conducted an investigation into the matter after city officials contacted them Sept. 20 indicating that the thefts occurred between June 1 and Sept. 20.
