Changes in casino junkets to Atlantic City and other locations could lead to flights to Las Vegas from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
Dan Dickten, director of aviation at the local airport, says Allegiant Air, which flies from here to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and locations in Florida, also shows signs of possibly providing a Las Vegas flight from here.
Xtra Airways, the airline flying casino junkets from here to Atlantic City a couple of times per month, will be replaced by Frontier Airlines on Jan. 1, and that could lead to casino junkets to Las Vegas, Dickten said.
That’s because Frontier and the casino company it works with, Caesars Entertainment Corp,, have both told Dickten they are thinking of offering junkets to Las Vegas, possibly once per month.
“They said they’d take a good look at it after the first of the year,” Dickten said.
It’s been two to three years since there have been any Las Vegas casino flights from the local airport, Dickten said.
Allegiant will begin twice-weekly flights to Las Vegas from Plattsburg, N.Y., on Dec. 19. If that service proves successful, Allegiant might consider the same thing for the local airport, Dickten said.
