Matthew Smith files to run for Youngstown mayor

YOUNGSTOWN

Matthew Smith of Crandall Avenue has filed nominating petitions to run for Youngstown mayor in the Democratic primary in May.

Smith submitted the documents today to the Mahoning County Board of Elections. The filing deadline is in February.

Smith unsuccessfully ran for 1st Ward councilman in 1985 as an independent. He filed to run for Youngstown mayor in 1987 in the Democratic primary. But the board of elections disqualified him before that primary because he didn’t have enough valid signatures on nominating petitions to get on the ballot.

He is the second person to file for the seat. Outgoing county Commissioner John McNally IV submitted nominating petitions on Nov. 19 for the Democratic primary.

a real professionlal type. When I saw him on the news it looked like his address was bed number 87 at the mission. If you are going to file a petition to run for a government office, at least clean youself up before going out in public. When the Frost and Stark families attempted this they had some class. Wake up and act the part.
