Canfield band members part of honors bands

The Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 5 held its annual Fall Conference on Nov. 17 at Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. Highlighting the conference were the performances of the OMEA District 5 Middle School and High School Honors Bands. Band directors from across Ashtabula, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties submitted hundreds of nominations.
The Canfield Band Department was represented by two middle school band members and eight high school band members, who performed with these prestigious ensembles.
The OMEA District 5 Middle School Honors Band was directed by composer and conductor Travis Weller from Mercer, Pa. Canfield Middle School eighth-grade band members who participated were Evan Sotack on trumpet and Shannon Rischar on tenor saxophone.
The High School Honors Band was directed by internationally-acclaimed composer and conductor Brian Balmages from Baltimore. Canfield High School band members who participated were junior Emily Damelio on oboe, senior Sara Martinko and junior Rollin Bresson on clarinet, junior Ernie Barkett on bassoon, senior Hayley Ward on alto saxophone and piano, senior Michael Barkett (two-time participant) on trumpet, senior Alex Tareshawty (two-time participant) on French horn and senior Andrew Jarvis on trombone.
