Prosecutors to seek death in Texas officer killing

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a man charged in the fatal shooting of an Austin police officer.

Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg said today that she would pursue the death penalty against Brandon Montgomery Daniel. Daniel is charged with capital murder in the April 6 shooting death of Senior Officer Jaime Padron.

Authorities say the 40-year-old Padron responded to reports of a disturbance involving a drunk man at a Walmart around 2:30 a.m. The suspect tried to run and the officer, a former Marine, chased him. Authorities say that in the ensuing tussle, the suspect produced a semi-automatic pistol and shot Padron.

Thousands of people attended a memorial service for Padron in Austin.

Another clear case for the bleeding hearts that will bi@#ch and moan about the death penalty.
Because he broke up with his girlfriend and was depressed and took Xanax and tequila, he not only killed a INNOCENT person, but that INNOCENT person leaves behind 2 daughters (10,6) who will never have there dad anymore.
And he's allowed to still breathe the air and live his life comfortably??

""According to the arrest affidavit obtained by 7NEWS, the store manager called for police after an apparently drunken man appeared to be trying to stuff merchandise into a backpack.
The affidavit said Daniel immediately tried to run when confronted by De Luna-Padron.
The officer tackled Daniel, said Lincoln LaMere.

"This all occurred very quickly, the suspect either fired a shot at the officer as they were going down or as they hit the ground," said LaMere.
According to the police account, "Daniel stated that he intentionally shot…(the officer)…in the region of the head."
The affidavit said Daniel said, "I killed a cop."

Reached by phone, Daniel’s mother, Mary O’Dell, told 7NEWS, "Everybody liked Daniel. He had everything. I’m so sorry for all the losses, including the family of the officer."
She said she had spoken with Daniel Thursday and that he had mentioned taking Xanax and drinking tequila.
Court records show Daniel has had trouble with police before, including a theft arrest and several driving violations.

O'Dell said Daniel also had recently been cited for DWI in Texas.

De Luna-Padron, a former Marine, was a veteran of the Gulf War.

He leaves behind two daughters, ages 10 and 6."""
