Staff report

Youngstown Christian School honored veterans this week in observance of Veterans Day.

About 25 veterans and their families were honored during the event. The majority of veterans were family members of YCS students.

The program began with the posting of the colors by the 838th Military Police Department, which is part of the 437th Military Police Battalion.

The Rev. Russell Libb, retired from the Berlin Center United Methodist Church and a veteran himself, gave the invocation and benediction. Students honored the guests with a performance of “My Country Tis of Thee” and a patriotic act of “Honor to Serve” by singing artist Ray Bolts. Anai’ Bennett, a YCS senior, also shared a poem she wrote as the sister and granddaughter of veterans.

The guest speaker was Lt. Col.Erik Nagy, commander of the 437th Military Police Battalion. He honored and thanked the veterans in attendance while educating the students about the importance of Veterans Day.

Serving his career in the National Guard, Nagy also spoke to how many soldiers have civilian jobs but put their lives on hold in a moment’s notice to serve their country.

As a private Christian School, service and sacrifice are something for which YCS embraces and honors veterans.
