Petitions for U.S. secession submitted from all 50 states

Published: Sat, November 17, 2012 @ 11:03 p.m.

McClatchey Newspapers

What began as a small group of citizens voicing their disappointment with President Barack Obama’s victory in last week’s presidential election, has turned into a plea from hundreds of thousands of citizens to have their states be granted independence from the federal government.

The White House has now received secession petitions from all 50 states by citizens requesting that the administration “peacefully grant” them the opportunity to form their own sovereign government.

The petitions are created through the Obama administration’s ’We The People’ initiative, which launched in 2011 as an effort to give citizens an opportunity to have their voices heard by the administration.

To appear on the website, a petition must first receive more than 150 signatures. For the petition to be granted a response from the White House, it must receive at least 25,000 signatures.

Currently, 6 secession petitions have reached that threshold - from Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas. The petition from Texas has more than 100,000 signatures-although according to another petition, it seems that 5,000 people in Austin would like to be granted independence from the state of Texas while remaining part of the United States.

Of the 146 petitions currently listed on the White House Petitions website, 66 are requests for secession.

In response to the calls for secession, numerous other petitions have appeared on the website this week, some even calling for the signers of the secession petitions to be stripped of their citizenship and be deported.

One petition with nearly 10,000 signatures calls on the president to “please sign an executive order such that each American citizen who signed a petition from any state to secede from the USA shall have their citizenship stripped and be peacefully deported.”

Another petitioner is happy to allow states to peacefully leave the union, as long as they pay their share of the national debt before they go.

Residents of states wishing to form their own governments should “take their own advice about ’personal responsibility’, and pay their share of the national debt before being released to fend for themselves,” the petition says.

But pleas from citizens to leave the union are not the only requests from citizens to the White House.

A petition created on Nov. 11 calls for the impeachment of the president, while another is a call to “restore objectivity and fairness to our media”.

More than 8,000 people have signed a petition to make Election Day a federal holiday, which could increase voter turnout “by eliminating the pressures and constraints of the workday.”

A more lighthearted petition requests that “in this time of despair” Obama should “do the Hokey Pokey on national television during a special Presidential Address to the nation.” That one had been removed from the website by Wednesday evening.

“If a petition gets enough support,” the website says, “White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.”

For all you who feel you need to secede, how about just leaving the continental U.S. altogether. It is a free country after all. Just leave. Don't ask for permission to turn your backs and be on your own to just be/act as our neighbors so you can live on this soil. You no longer want to be a part of the U.S.A. then just pick another country like you would your underwear in the morning. Plenty of choices without having to go through the trouble of starting a new goverment from scratch.

So disrespectful and nonpatriotic. The people who want to secede are thankless takers. My grandfather and many other veterans fought to preserve the freedom we all enjoy and take for granted, especially freedom of speech, thus their petition. I agree that they can all leave after they pay their fair share of the national debt. Good riddance to a bunch of cry babies who didn't get their way.

As much as I'd very much love to put on a bright blue uniform with shiny US Buttons and help put the South into its place yet again by following the proud tradition of another Ohioan named General SHERMAN.

I have to seriously wonder if the south is worth the effort.

I don't believe i've seen so many idiotic statements and uneducated responses to something very simple. BHO wants to act as dictator, by pass Congress, then disreguard the Constitution in crafting a bill that totally un constitutional and that 63% of Americans rejected. Forced it down our throats, in the meantime he's busy spending our tax money as fast as it can be spent. He's lied to America on numerous occaisions. Now we are running 1.4 trillion dollar debts each year. he never tried to help the workers get jobs until AFTER his assinine UNafordable healthcare and the only ones who profited from his stimulous package were his big donors. OUR counstitution and laws are being ignored and outright broken by someone who swore they would withold our constitution AND laws.
And you idiots that think states owe the government are nuts....and people should pay their share the National debt that these crooks ran up in debts on us are just as idiotic. where ya gonna deport me to? California? noooo noooooooo MR BILLl!!!!!!!!

@boatdrunk, txredneck, and Patriot2: In case you haven't read much of the Constitution, there's a clause in it that describes a concept called VOTING, by which changes can be made to government.
@warvet: I AM one of the 47% that Romney called victims, though I am NOT drawing any check from the government for any reason and am working more than full-time to support MYSELF, while if you are profiting from any GI education benefits or disability check related to your service, you also fit into that 47% AS WELL AS being one of the moochers, as you're so plainly and simply calling them. What's really plain and simple is how ignorant you are of what constituted that 47%. He could aggregate every person drawing a welfare check, disability check, social security check (for which people contributed all their working lives), Medicare benefit (ditto there), AND the unemployed and still not reach that 47% he talked about. And... OH by the way, 12 years would include all of the terms of Dubya's administration. While we're at it, why don't you define marxism for us, without looking it up? ; )

@boatdrunk: The Patriot Act (NDDA) originated under Bush 2. It comprises the single greatest power grab (and the potential to totally strip American citizens of any and all rights) of any administration that has ever existed in this country. It was sold to Congress at a time when we were all still experiencing profound shell shock from 9/11 and most, if not all of it, should be repealed. Where was all this outrage and talk of seceding when Bush got that law passed?? Where was the dissention and talk of impeachment when Bush lied to all of us to get us into Iraq, spending billions of dollars every month that we didn't have revenue to cover??
The Republican party is the "haters of liberty" if the Patriot Act is any indication. And, considering how many times I've seen those of you who are anti-Obama on this thread tell others using their right to free speech to shut up or have used personal slurs against them, I'd say YOU are freedom haters as well.

I don't listen to MSNBC. By the same token, I don't have my opinions handed to me by FAUX "news" *sic*, or Rush Limbaugh, or Mark Levin, or Neal Boortz, or Savage Nation either.

I don't agree with every step the President has taken while in office, and YES, some of those steps were questionable in my opinion. But, I also don't believe he's going to turn our sovereignty over to the U.N. or any other world organization. If you'll remember, there was a huge rush to get more guns when he was elected the first time because all the tinfoil-ers were crying "He'll take all yer guns!". No such thing happened then nor will it in the future.

So, in 2008 the first application of this program for mobile phones began when a company called Tracfone started their Safelink Wireless service in Tennessee.
Aha, some say, that’s the same year Obama was elected! Well, that’s true. But the service in Tennessee was launched three months prior to Obama being elected. And that means the discussion and approval of the extension of the program occurred under President Bush’s watch.

Also the Affordable Healthcare Act passed the Senate, was reconciled in the House, signed by the President and upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court. You had your say and lost. Its now the law of the land Thank Zeus! (I like to distribute the blasphemy equally).

and on a personal note I can't tell all of you how much I love the fact that those that drank the Tea Party's kool-aid just can not STAND the idea that millions upon millions of Americans turned out to re-elect President Obama. That they were beaten fair and square and that just makes them livid.

Fascist? Since you obviously don't know what that word means I'll enlighten you.

Fascism - a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Yeah that certainly sounds like us, having just democratically elected our government and president yet again.

I have a belief also. My belief is that most Neo-Cons fit the following definitions.

Racism-hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Crying-demanding attention or remedy.

Whining- to utter a low, usually nasal, complaining cry or sound, as from uneasiness, discontent, peevishness.

Ignorance- lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.

I didn't know Obama didn't have to deal with Congress and has all of a sudden become a dictator ruling with complete power. I could've swore Mitch McConnell said they were not going to cooperate with him and make him a one term President.

Bush started the bailouts.
I NEVER saw Romney's birth certificate. Romney could've been born in Africa. He NEVER showed a birth certificate and Obama showed his. It proves to me that Romney is a terrorist. He sent jobs overseas and closed US companies. He was trying to undermine Social Security.

Obama has issued 141 executive orders so far. In a comparable amount of time in their presidencies, President George W. Bush signed 162 executive orders, while President Bill Clinton signed 364.

You also bring up the bailouts, those were started by George W. Bush.

Well way off topic but El Paso wants to succeed from Texas along with some other city in Texas. It happens every election but nothing ever comes from it. i do think it is the first time all 50 states have came on board.

And don't we think it is time to stop the blame game of previous administrations? The housing bubble door was opened by Carter no one complained, everyone around abused it, people were warned about it, no one would listen the door crashed and took walls and gates and windows with it.

But Carter Reagan GHWB Clinton GWB and Obama Never wrote a home Mortgage.

I may be wrong but telephone water and electric just might be covered in our Constitution in a sub section? And was covered for years by public restrooms, Water fountains, pay phones, and in some sates electric and water was to be provided at city and state parks and the basics are covered by H.E.A.P.

Just maybe if presidents and Parties [R&D] would take a little more responsibility in their actions. Instead of playing the blame game at the other guy.
And GWB is gone )* stop living in and blaming the past and stand up and take responsibility for today's actions.

Abortion issue, gay marriages, RTW should be a ballot issue on election day

Divorce Agreement (shared from the internet)

Dear American liberals, leftists, social-progress, socialists, regressive, Marxists, and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:
1. Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides had such distinct and disparate tastes.
2. We don't like redistributive taxes, so you can keep them.
3. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
4. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military.
5. We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar, and bio-diesel.
6. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.
7. We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street.
8. You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless homeboys, hippies, druggies, and illegal aliens, and the stupid moronic idiots.
9. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and Rednecks.
10. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood ..

Divorce Agreement (cont.)

11. You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
12. You can have the peace-niks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.
13. We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.
14. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness, and Shirley McLain. You can also have the U.N., but we will no longer be paying the bill.
15. We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.
16. You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors, for free with no money.
17. We'll continue to believe healthcare is an earned luxury and not a right.
18. We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."
19. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya," or "We Are the World".
20. We'll practice trickledown economics and support Chick fil-A, and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.
21. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our constitution and our flag.
22. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

John J. Wall
Law Student and an American

P.S.: Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin Sheen, Barbara Streisand, GEORGE CLOONEY, and Jane Fonda with you.

Hostess’ decision to file for bankruptcy came amid disputes with its union workers, who threatened a strike that Hostess said imperiled the company’s finances. Now take the F'd up State of Florida. We have a governor that was elected..even after his company was caught ripping off the Medicare/Medicaid system. Yep Gov. Rick "Moonbeam: Scott 's company that he founded had to pay a $1.75 billion dollar fine for over billing and CHEATING the federal government. This idiot is one of the worst humanbeings to have been elected...since Richard Nixon and Ronald "I lost my mind" Reagan. Lastly these same states have drastically cut funding to education. In Florida...65% of the students failed....FAILED...the FCAT Profiecency Test. This is a test that is based on the 8th grade level. Then again...if you live in Orlando...it really doesn't take much brain power to work in any tourist related job.
