Warren Township fire hospitalizes two

Staff report

WARREN Township

A North Leavitt Road grandfather was unconscious inside of his home when firefighters from Warren Township and Warren City arrived Thursday night.

He was quickly rescued from just inside of the main door to the house and taken with his wife and two grandsons to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

The man and his wife were both flown to Cleveland MetroHealth Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Their condition and names were not available this morning, Warren Township Fire Chief Kenneth Schick said.

The two boys, ages 3 and 6, were treated at Trumbull Memorial but released to their parents with no apparent injuries.

Schick said he did not have an estimated dollar loss and didn’t know the cause of the fire, which appeared to be contained to the first floor of the home and was reported at 10:38 p.m. The home sustained smoke and fire damage.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation.

The grandfather had been in an upstairs bedroom but only made it as far as the area inside the door before collapsing, Schick said.

Firefighters from Champion and Braceville townships also assisted. The home is at 541 North Leavitt in Warren Township, a short distance north of Canoe City MetroPark.
