Detroit connection leads to second arrest in Warren shootout
For the first time Wednesday, police acknowledged that Sunday’s killing of Marco Dukes, 32, of Warren and wounding of his cousin was a “gun battle” and that their investigation has focused almost exclusively on Detroit men.
Adding to that Detroit connection was the arrest Tuesday night of Derrick Peete, 22, of Detroit in connection with Sunday’s homicide.
Peete has been charged with the aggravated murder of Dukes and is likely to be arraigned on the charge in Warren Municipal Court later today or Thursday.
The other man charged in the case, Dale Hatch, 25, of Detroit was arraigned this morning on aggravated murder and is being held in the Trumbull County jail on $2.5 million bond.
Members of Dukes’ family spoke to news media after the hearing, saying they support the possibility that Hatch is facing the possibility of the death penalty in the case.
“Yes, I would,” Valerie Redd of Columbus said, when asked whether she would like to see Hatch face death. “He’s dead,” she said of her nephew, Marco Dukes.
