Bar association supports downsizing Youngstown court

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Bar Association has concluded that the Youngstown Municipal Court can operate efficiently with only two full-time judges.

Atty. Shirley J. Christian, association president, and Atty. Scott Cochran, chairman of the association’s Court Consolidation Committee, announced the association’s position at a news conference this morning.

The court has two full-time sitting judges after Judge Robert Douglas retired this past summer.

“Operating with two judges would reduce expenses and align the court more closely with the city’s population and the court’s case volume, both of which have decreased considerably in the past 10 years,” Christian said.
