Ohioan to be sentenced later today in football player's murder

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A man is to be sentenced for murder and other charges in the fatal shooting of a Central State University football player at a southwest Ohio nightclub last year.

A Montgomery County prosecutor’s spokesman says 31-year-old Jason Shern of Dayton is set for sentencing later today in Dayton.

The spokesman says Shern pleaded guilty to murdering CSU player Kordero Hunter and to three counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon and two weapons counts. Shern could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

Authorities said a fight broke out Sept. 23, 2011, inside a Dayton nightclub and several people were escorted outside. Police said Shern began shooting outside, killing Hunter. Three others were injured.

Hunter, of suburban Chicago, was a defensive back at the university in Wilberforce near Dayton.
