Eight teams from Ohio and Pennsylvania will participate in the United Way Holiday Basketball Classic on Dec. 15.
The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley will host the event at Poland High School.
The schedule of games begins at 3 p.m., when the Poland girls meet Neshannock (Pa.). At 4:30, the Struthers girls will meet Sharon (Pa.).
At 6 p.m., the Warren Harding boys will face Sharon, followed by a game between boys teams from Poland and West Middlesex (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m.
“We are very appreciative of Poland hosting this event — their facilities are among the best in Ohio and are a perfect venue for our first basketball classic,” said Bob Hannon, president of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley,
“We believe we have a very strong field of teams. Landing perennial state power Warren Harding is a good draw, and their opponent Sharon has high expectations for the upcoming season.”
The event will include raffle items and a 50/50 drawing during each game. All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
