Target to kick off season a bit earlier
Target Corp. will open its doors at 9 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, three hours earlier than a year ago, to kick off the holiday shopping season.
The discounter joins several other major retailers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., that are opening earlier in the evening on the holiday and staggering deals over the two-day period. Over the years, stores have been expanding their hours on Black Friday to get ahead of the competition, but the kickoff increasingly is happening right after shoppers finish their turkey feast.
Austerity plan OK’d
Greek lawmakers have approved the country’s 2013 austerity budget, an essential step in Greece’s efforts to persuade its international creditors to unblock a vital rescue-loan installment without which the country will go bankrupt.
The approval by majority vote early today comes four days after a separate bill of deep spending cuts and tax hikes over the next two years squeaked past with a narrow majority in the 300-member Parliament.
