Trooper of the Year
Trooper William J. Sattler, a 27-year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, has been selected as the Lisbon Post Trooper of the Year.
Sattler was selected by his supervisors and peers based on his work ethic, job knowledge, technical skills, and professionalism.
He joined the patrol in October 1985 as a member of the 115th Academy Class. He earned his commission in March 1986 and was assigned to the Ashtabula Post. In December 1989, he transferred to his current assignment at the Lisbon Post.
Sattler will represent the Lisbon Post as he moves on to compete for District Trooper of the Year Honors.
Cory R. Winebold, son of Kevin J. and Shelley A. Winebold of Boardman, received his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor, at a court-of-honor ceremony Saturday at Camp Stambaugh in Canfield.
Cory rose in the ranks of Cub Scout Pack 60 from Tiger to Webelos II, earning his Arrow of Light, and he crossed over to Troop 46. He has earned 64 merit badges, the American Heritage Award, World Conservation award and the God and Me and God and Life religious awards.
He has served as troop den chief, librarian, quartermaster, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader and currently is a junior assistant scoutmaster. Cory is pursuing the Hornaday Award, the Boy Scouts’ Olympic Medal, at Loghurst Farmhouse and Museum in Canfield.
His Eagle Scout service project included the creation of a symmetrical garden outside the gates of Loghurst and re-creating a historical herb garden bed dated from 1850 to 1895 and a garden area dated from 1895 to 1978.
The project required hours of labor at the site and research to maintain the historical accuracy of the gardens.
Cory attends Boardman High School where he is a member of marching band, jazz group and bowling team. He also volunteers at various church youth programs.
