Dog licenses to be available online Dec. 1Tweet
Mahoning County dog owners will be able to buy dog licenses online beginning Dec. 1 through the county auditor’s website, Stacy Marling, director of accounting in the auditor’s office, announced Thursday.
The licenses, which cost $15 a year, also are available in person at the auditor’s office at the courthouse, 120 Market St., dog pound, 589 Industrial Road, and at various retail establishments around the county.
All dogs over 3 months old must be licensed annually.
The county commissioners also extended next year’s dog-licensing deadline from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28.
Marling told the commissioners the one-month extension is designed to give dog owners more time to get their dogs licensed and county staff more time to issue the licenses.
Audrey Tillis, county budget director, announced the commissioners will have hearings Tuesday through Thursday on 2013 budget proposals by various county department heads.
Authorized general-fund spending this year is just over $54 million. For next year, it’s just over $50 million.
Tillis said, however, she hopes a carry-over from this year into next year of at least $2 million to $3 million can be added to the 2013 figure.
The general fund is the county’s main operating fund that pays for operation of the courts, jail and other central county government functions.
Tillis said she hopes the commissioners can adopt next year’s budget by Dec. 1. Their deadline to do so is Dec. 31.
