Lawyers for condemned Pa. inmate drop clemency bid

Published: Thu, November 8, 2012 @ 10:55 a.m.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Lawyers for condemned killer Hubert Michael aren’t seeking another clemency hearing for their client.

Michael’s legal team had until this morning to request for reconsideration of Wednesday’s unanimous vote by the state Pardons Board not to grant Michael clemency.

Shawn Nolan of the Federal Community Defender Office in Philadelphia confirmed that no request will be filed.

Michael is scheduled to receive a lethal injection at 7 p.m. tonight at Rockview State Prison unless the courts stay the execution.

Two requests for a stay were rejected in federal court in Harrisburg and appeals were pending today in the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia.

The 56-year-old Michael pleaded guilty in the shooting death of a teenage girl 19 years ago.
