Robber orders victim to 'Vote Obama'

The election was on the minds of most of the country Tuesday night, including the man who robbed Convenient Food Mart, 3120 Parkman Road NW.

Police were called to the store at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday for an armed robbery.

A witness said the suspect, a black male wearing a gray sweatshirt and a bandana covering his face from the nose down, entered the store with a gun and pointed it at the witness and demanded “everything.”

The suspect then turned his attention to the store clerk, Surendra Patel, who was standing at the counter, and demanded all of the money from the register. Patel complied.

“The suspect then pointed the gun at Patel and asked him who he voted for,” a police report said. “The suspect asked Patel several times who he voted for while pointing the gun at him.”

The witness “told the suspect ‘he can’t vote,’ ” the report said. The suspect stated “Vote Obama. This is Obama, bitches” and then fled the store.

He got away with about $800.
