Nurse's trial postponed in Ohio teen's death

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A nurse’s trial in the death of a 14-year-old who died of what authorities say was nutritional and medical neglect complicated by cerebral palsy has been postponed in southwest Ohio.

A court official says jury selection that was set for today in the Dayton trial of 42-year-old Mollie Parsons may begin later this week. The Dayton woman also is charged with failing to provide for a functionally impaired person and tampering with records in the March 1, 2011, death of Makayla Norman.

Authorities say the teen had bed sores and was living in filthy conditions when she died. She weighed only 28 pounds.

Prosecutors say Parsons and the girl’s mother were supposed to care for the teen. The mother was sentenced to nine years for voluntary manslaughter and endangering children.
