Turkey trot today
Area residents are invited to bring their leashed dogs and meet at Mill Creek MetroParks’ Ford Nature Center at 11 a.m. today to participate in the MetroMutts Turkey Trot. The hike is along a moderate rated, unpaved trail with hills and steps. The goal is to see some of the wild turkeys that live in the center.
Deals for Wheels
The Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency is offering its annual Deals for Your Wheels program for those whose driver’s licenses have been suspended for nonpayment of child support. From Monday through Nov. 30, parents can get their driver’s licenses reinstated by paying just one month’s child support plus $1 and a $25 reinstatement fee. Those wishing to participate should visit CSEA at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and ask to speak to a license-suspension case manager.
Memorial Day 500
Mark and Linda Brown are retiring as organizers of the Mercer Memorial Day 500, a Memorial Day observance, and are hosting a community open house for the new organizers, Ed and Sharon Dittrich, on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pizza Joe’s, 116 East Venango St. Dittriches own and operate Muscle Products in Jackson Center. The Browns organized the first Mercer Memorial Day 500 in 2003.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has developed a one-hour training program for the public called Community Shield to help identify possible criminal behavior on Ohio’s roadways and tools for contacting the OSHP by dialing 677. The training will be offered at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19 at the Southington post, 3424 U.S. 422 (Parkman Road). Seating is limited to 25; call 330-898-2311 by Friday.
