Boy Scout Troop 25 hosted its annual Fall Court of Honor a few weeks ago in Fellowship Hall at Canfield United Methodist Church, as well as a Caveman Camp-out that utilized the skills of camping and cooking without utensils.
The Fall Court of Honor recognized and honored the Scouts who have earned rank advancements, merit badges and other awards in scouting since the last Court of Honor this past summer. Serving as Master of Ceremonies and welcoming everyone was scoutmaster Kevin Prus.
Scouts being recognized were Ben Boughner (family life, rifle shooting, survival camp and historic hike), Luke Bowser (Tenderfoot rank and swimming), Patrick Byrne (home repairs, kayaking, shotgun shooting and mile swim award), Donny Duda (cooking, geocaching, mile swim award and survival camp), Zach Gierlach (First Class rank, astronomy, historic hike and survival camp), Eric Henderson (archeology, citizenship in the community, mammal study, rifle shooting, wood carving, 50 miler award, summer camp and survival camp), Trevor Hovanec (Scout rank and leatherwork), Cade Manley (canoeing and wilderness survival), James McGarry (home repairs and leatherwork), Matt Nielson (Tenderfoot rank), Patrick Nielson (First Class rank, archery, radio, and shotgun shooting), Brandon Pine (Tenderfoot rank and leatherwork), Mario Ramunno (survival camp), Mike Ramunno (cooking, geocaching, wilderness survival, historic hike and survival camp), Jared Russell (Scout rank and wood carving), Hunter Schwab (Tenderfoot rank and swimming), Tanner Tsvetkoff (Scout rank, Tenderfoot rank, swimming and wood carving), and Isaac Wood (Scout rank and Tenderfoot rank).
Troop 25’s summer events included the Fourth of July parade, Gettysburg historic hike, and a campout and summer camp at the Seven Ranges Scout Reservation. Their most recent campout was a Caveman Camp-out at Dean Hill, where they learn to cook without utensils and they also carved their own forks and spoons.
A dozen scouts learned how to cook using fruit rinds, in the shell, using skewers and cooking on rocks, as well as working on other rank advancements during the weekend.
Troop 25 meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Canfield United Methodist Church, located at 27 S. Broad St. in Canfield. For more information about the troop and its activities, contact Prus at 330-533-5616 or ask any troop member.
