Boardman boys cross country wins district title

The Boardman boys cross country team captured its first district championship since 1990 by outscoring GlenOak by 42 points Oct. 20 at the Malone University course.
Junior Mark Hadley was the individual district champion for the second consecutive season, finishing first in a time of 15:59. Classmate Alan Burns was next at third overall in a time of 16:33. They were followed by freshman Nathan Hadley in 11th place with a time of 16:53 and junior Justin Maroni in 18th overall with a time of 17:03 as well as senior Sam Sheronovich in 29th place in a time of 17:14.
“I could not be more proud of a team than I am of our guys,” said head coach John Phillips. “This was a big monkey we got off our back. It would have been very easy to relax after the Federal League meet last week, but these guys wanted this. I have never seen a more focused group than this team.”
Other teams competing for the district title were GlenOak (104), Jackson (130), Hoover (146), Louisville (163), Howland (165), Lake (167), Austintown Fitch (171), Canfield (194), Wooster (231), Massillon Perry (234), Green (238), Massillon (390), New Philadelphia (429), Canton McKinley (441), Barberton (508), Canton Timken (557) and Akron Garfield (605).
