The Jameson Hospital Dean Ornish Program for reversing heart disease is offering the Holiday Session of the Spectrum Lifestyle Improvement Program, a six-week lifestyle workshop that explores the spectrum of nutrition, exercise, stress, management and social support to impact total well being.

Starting today and occurring on the first Thursday of succeeding months, a nurse will be at the Leetonia Library, 181 Walnut St., from 1 to 3 p.m. to offer screening for blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate. Also today, a representative from Hearing Aids and Devices will screen for hearing tests from 1 to 2 p.m.
Socks for Seniors
The national Socks for Seniors project to collect new socks to be distributed to the elderly in Youngstown area nursing homes began Saturday and runs through Dec. 23. The organization is seeking local coordinators to help collect socks and people willing to host Sock Drives or locations where Sock Drive boxes can be placed. Sharon Regional Health System’s Diabetes Center is offering a free educational program, “Taking Control,” on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Sharon Regional’s Diagnostic and Imaging Center, 2395 Garden Way, Hermitage.
The program for diabetics and their families is based on the personal experiences and training of Doreen Bugai, a member of the A1C Champions. Topics include good glucose control; effective diabetes self-management; a balanced, healthy lifestyle; overcoming fears surrounding diabetes; and finding resources for diabetes support.

Suicide prevention workshop offered
Help Hotline Crisis Center and Potential Development are offering a suicide prevention workshop Nov. 14 featuring Kevin Hines, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, as keynote speaker.
Effective July 1, 2013, the name of the combined Ohio’s combined alcohol and other drug addiction and mental health services authority will be the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Help Hotline Crisis Center is offering six-week Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), a free course designed to help persons suffering from mental illness or drug and alcohol addiction learn to lighten the intensity, the duration and the frequency of negative symptoms and develop a better lifestyle.
