Health care changes


The Community Medical Ethics Project, a collaboration among UPMC Horizon, Thiel College, St. Paul’s and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church that examines changes ahead for health care, will present a seminar Nov. 15 at Thiel College’s Glen Johnson Community Center located at the end of Ridgeway Avenue off College Avenue near the college chapel. Two sessions of identical content are 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Diane P. Holder, executive vice president, UPMC, president, UPMC Insurance Services Division, and president and chief operating officer of UPMC Health Plan, will present “Why Our Health Care System Must Change: What’s Ahead.”

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Registrations are encouraged by calling 724-589-6830.

Imaging services to be discontinued at Mohawk


Effective Friday, Jameson Health System will discontinue offering medical imaging services at the Mohawk Community Health Center, 341 Mohawk School Road. Laboratory services will continue to be offered Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to noon. Appointments for medical imaging services at other Jameson locations can be scheduled by calling 724-656-4220.

Winter heating assistance offered


The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) is scheduling appointments for its home energy assistance winter crisis programs that run today through March 31, 2013.

The energy assistance programs offered by MYCAP, the State of Ohio and the federal government may provide some assistance to eligible Mahoning County residents in paying for their gas and/or electric utilities or with their bulk fuel who are faced with a disconnect notice or their service has been terminated, said Summer Blakeny of MYCAP. Bill introduced for autism coverage


Several state representatives and senators have introduced House Bill 598/Senate Bill 381 which calls for the inclusion of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) into insurance coverage provided under the Mental Health Parity Act of 2007.

The bills amend the existing statute to include ASDs in the definition of mental illnesses.
