Too soon to gauge shale success, forum speaker says

YANKEE LAKE

Two of the biggest players in the local Utica Shale play say they are nearly done acquiring mineral rights for their drilling operations.

Representatives of Chesapeake Energy and BP are part of a shale forum ongoing today at Yankee Lake Ballroom.

It’s still too soon to say how successful their exploration will be.

“Here in Ohio the play is extremely young. In no way is this a slam-dunk right now, but we’re cautiously optimistic,” said Bruce Hammond of Chesapeake.
