Eleven of the students earned associates degrees.
But what they also take with them as they leave their high-school years is the confidence that goes with knowing they have learned at a high level and have overcome significant challenges.
Jason Mar-Keith Gilmore says he knew before he started the program that it would require him to make great sacrifices.
Former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams gave the commencement address to the graduates Sunday at Powers Auditorium.

It is very encouraging to read about these students' success, and I wish them well in their continuing education and careers.
I hope that this success spreads through Youngstown Schools and that students will also find opportunities through the programs offered by Chaney, East and Choffin. Our valley and our nation cannot afford to "lose" our children.
I believe Superintendent Hathorn is on the right track and trust that the Board of Education, faculty and students will support him.
