Published: Tue, May 15, 2012 @ 4:59 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexual activity with an underage male family member.

Hubert Clardy III, 19, of Liberty Road, appeared today before Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for sentencing after entering into a plea agreement with prosecutors where he pleaded guilty to one count of rape.

He had initially been charged with 16 felony counts including rape, unlawful sexual contact with a minor and several counts of gross sexual imposition.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Nicholas Brevetta, an assistant county prosecutor, and Atty. John Laczko, representing Clardy, reached an agreed-upon prison sentence of seven years.

Given that the prosecutors bargained away most of the charges, this may have been all he could get. His life is effectively over, though - sexual offenders have trouble finding places to live and companies that will hire them.
