Pa. mom, boyfrield jailed in 3-year-old's scalding
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh couple has been jailed on charges that the woman’s 3-year-old daughter was scalded by the woman’s boyfriend as discipline for losing her sock.
Online court records don’t list attorneys for 23-year-old Shaquia Farrell or 20-year-old Patrick Johnson, who were arrested Tuesday.
Police say doctors at UPMC Mercy hospital found the toddler’s burns to be suspicious because they were on isolated parts of her body, and not spread about as they would have been had the girl accidentally scalded herself while she was left alone in the bathtub as the couple claimed.
Johnson faces aggravated assault and other charges because he allegedly burned the child while Farrell was working. Farrell has been charged with child endangerment and reckless endangerment because police say she initially lied about how her daughter was burned.
