YOUNGSTOWN
Police said a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend at a South Side bar sent two officers and a suspect to the hospital this evening.
The male and female officers, whose names were not released, were on the scene at Michael O’Malley’s Pub, 3114 South Ave., after the bartender requested the removal of an unruly patron.
The patron, who police said refused to give his name Thursday, punched the female officer, who fell and “smashed her head pretty good,” according to an officer at the police station.
The other officer apprehended the patron, who tried to hide drugs he had by quickly swallowing them, police said.
The officers and the patron were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Witnesses at the bar declined to comment to The Vindicator tonight.

Stop using the generic term "South Side" . Please refer to the neighborhood by name . Plenty of neighborhoods are regenerating .
Right on lanacek !!!!! Agreed !!!
Sad how people have no respect for police officer especially female police officers. Isn't this the 2nd or 3rd female youngstown police officer that has gotten beat up in the past year? Maybe they need to make sure these females can actually do the job before just hiring them. Hopefully both officers will make quick recoveries.
You meant to type "degenerating."
Or...
you've not driven through the Southside late afternoon/at night once the urban occupiers wake.
Market Street North of Midlothian.
ALL streets North of Midlothian between Market & South Avenue.
ALL streets East & West off Glenwood.
EVERY night- shootings, drug sales, urban occupiers blocking the streets, robbing the grandmothers raising their friends 6 children. Robberies have slowed because the urban occupiers have already robbed everything, chasing away business. Only deep pockets will keep open the new groceries until they realize the shoplifting losses ALL other businesses in that area recognized. Stop giving away free groceries ("Food Stamps") & see how long those groceries remain.
YPD aren't shooting enough people.
If they would have tazed him, there would have been an uproar over police abuse.
I would not want to be a cop today because police today no longer have the respect or authority they once had.
If you send two cops to a bar to take care of an unruley patron and a cop gets punched out, its time to take down the patron with absolutely brutal force. I'm hoping that is what happened. I would love to see a picture of this "patron" with 2 black eyes, missing teeth and puffed out lips.
