Sabrina Mangapora, who led Canfield High’s girls basketball team to a district championship, was named to the first team All-Ohio squad for Division II on Monday.
Mangapora, a 6-foot-1 junior, averaged 20.6 points per game for the Cardinals, who finished the season with a 17-8 record.
Mangapora, selected by a panel of media across the state, was one of nine players honored.
Howland’s Taylor Williams, who averaged 18.1 points and 12 rebounds per game in leading the Tigers to a 22-2 record and the All-American Conference American Division championship, was selected to the second team in Div. I.
Williams, who will continue her career at Princeton University, was joined by Warren Harding senior Anita Brown, who was named to the third team, along with Howland teammate Erika Notes, who received an honorable mention.
Brown, a 5-9 senior, averaged 26.7 points per game for the Raiders, who finished with a 12-9 mark.
Nites, a 5-8 senior, averaged 15.6 points per game for the Tigers.
Also in Div. II, Liberty’s Vakeyla Merriweather and Ali Gagne of Lakeview were named special mention. Merriweather (5-7 senior) averaged 20.7 points per game, while Gagne (5-10 senior) scored 20.4 points per game.
Selected honorable mention were McKenna Shives of Struthers, Maura Bobby of Poland and Rebekah Zets of West Branch.
Shives, a 5-5 sophomore, averaged 13 points per game, while Bobby, a 5-8 senior, averaged 12.6, and Zets, a 5-9 senior, averaged 10.2.
The Division III and Division IV all-state teams will be announced today.
