Methane, spark believed causes of Struthers blast
A Methane buildup, for an unexplained reason, sparked by electrical work is believed the cause of a blast Thursday at the Struthers sewage treatment plant, The Vindicator was told during a plant tour today.
The explosion happened in an instant, leaving two workers severely burned.
The Struthers plant is still taking in sewage for treatment and poses no environmental hazard, officials said.

Not surprising in the least. During warm periods in the winter for the past few years you could smell the methane in your household drains. It was particularly bad a few days ago.
Methane is odorless.
