Police make drug arrest after car stop

GIRARD

Police made a drug arrest after stopping a car after an incident in which a firecracker was thrown at a bicyclist.

Police witnessed a firecracker being thrown from a vehicle driven by Ryan Dieck, 21, of Rio Terra Street, Leavittsburg, shortly after 2 p.m. Monday. Police said a passenger, Scott Rockenfelder, 23, of U.S. Route 422, Southington, tossed the item at a passing bicyclist.

After stopping the vehicle on South State Street between Wilson Avenue and Second Street, police found a large plastic bag containing three smaller plastic bags with a total of 85.4 grams of suspectedmarijuana.

Along with drugs, police discovered a digital scale.

Both men also had suspended licenses.

Because the suspected marijuana was wrapped in three smaller bags, police were able to charge Dieck with trafficking in drugs, said Police Chief Jeff Palmer.

Rockenfelder was charged with assault and failure to comply with fireworks laws for allegedly throwing the firecracker.

Both men were released after being charged.
