Report: Zimmerman passed lie detector tests

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Murder defendant George Zimmerman might have defused the confrontation with Trayvon Martin if he would have identified himself as a neighborhood watch leader, the lead investigator wrote in an investigative report released Tuesday.

Another investigator wrote that on the night of the shooting, two lie detector tests given to Zimmerman found he wasn’t lying about what happened. The results of such tests are usually not admissible in court.

Sanford detective Chris Serino said Zimmerman verbally confronted the unarmed 17-year-old before the physical fight that ended when Zimmerman shot and killed Martin. But he didn’t say he was with the neighborhood watch group. The two got into a fistfight and the 28-year-old Zimmerman maintains that Martin attacked him and was beating him up before he fatally shot him. He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

Serino wrote in his report that Zimmerman and witnesses said the defendant who was in his car avoided Martin when he first saw him because, as he told investigators, “was afraid of Martin.” Serino also said that later in the encounter, Zimmerman got out of his SUV and followed Martin.

“His actions are inconsistent of those of a person who has stated he was in fear of another subject,” Serino wrote.

Based on his investigation, Serino recommended a charge of manslaughter to the state attorney.

Zimmerman didn't commit a crime. I agree with you, telegram. I think the highlight of this case will be after the final verdict is read and these idiots take to looting and burning down their towns to protest.....protest what? I do not know. The media posted current mugs of Zimmerman.....they ought to post the pics of thug-life Treyvon. That would solve a lot of issues, maybe even the score a little? Whole story ticks me off.

Please, you two just like that there's a dead teenager. The fact that he's black, just adds icing to the cake.

My bet is that you both identify with the overweight and weak Zimmerman. Go ahead and try your theory, start trying to stop and question strangers walking in the park or on the sidewalk. Just because you're nosy doesn't mean that the other person has to take you seriously. But, if you confront, be ready for the other guy to strike out in his own self-defense.

Zimmerman picked the fight, Martin was about to end it, Zimmerman shoots him. Stand you ground, ironically, applies to Martin not Zimmerman.

@ youngstowntelegram....these tweets show the thoughts of this 17 year old to be questionable and delinquent in nature, but not enough to constistute a "thug's" behavior. i am in no way, shape or form agreeing or condoning his words and opinions, but I feel this is not enough to label this young man. Speaking from personal experience, at 17, I myself could have been labeled a lot of things. My words and sometimes actions were not always model. I was raised in a decent home and I admit to demeaning myself at times to fit in the crowd even when I knew better. I am not saying this is the case with this situation, but it's a possibility.
