Ex-Rutgers student in webcam case leaves jail

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A former Rutgers student convicted of bias intimidation for using a webcam to see his roommate kiss another man has been released from jail after serving 20 days of a 30-day sentence. Twenty-year-old Dharun Ravi volunteered to start his sentence even though he could have remained free while the case is appealed. He was convicted earlier this year of 15 criminal counts in a case that got widespread attention in September 2010 when roommate Tyler Clementi committed suicide days after the webcam spying.

His actions and conviction on 15 criminal counts resulted in the death of man, and yet he is now free as a bird after a mere 20 days in jail. Meanwhile seven Amish farmers in Ohio are denied bail and rot in jail since last November for allegedly cutting hair without permission. This is justice?

Can you please explain the logic needed to conclude that Ravi, who made public comments about homosexual behavior he viewed on a webcam, is responsible for the decision Clementi made to jump off a bridge?

By your logic if I expose and humiliate you here on this board and you kill yourself that I am responsible for your death. Is that right?

Please explain.

@WilliamSwinger, Attis can't reply, you have humiliated him/her and he/she has jumped from a bridge and it's all your fault! The cops will be at your house shortly to imprison you for your use of free speech!

I haven't read about his situation, so I don't know why he chose to kill himself. Perhaps, though, you can understand that Ravi supplied a situation that gave Clementi the option of suicide? In that way, he has some responsibility.
