CRAFT SHOWS

The ladies of Central Park Apartments invite the public to join them for “Christmas in July,” a craft show to benefit the less fortunate in our community. The show will take place from 12:30 to 4 p.m. July 1 on the lawn of the complex, at 155 E. State St. in Niles. Prices for handcrafted goods will range from 50 cents to $30. Doris Balla, chairwoman of the event, welcomes others to join in support. Money will be used to buy items one cannot purchase with food stamps, such as soaps, paper supplies and personal hygiene products. A rain date for the sale is July 8.

Poland Art and Craft Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 on the green of Poland Village. Vendors are welcome. A registration fee of $30 will include a 15-by-10-foot space. For information call 330-757-4584.

Salem Memorial Building Association will sponsor its 25th annual Arts & Crafts In the Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park, East Pershing Street, Salem. Setup will be at 7 a.m., rain or shine. A 20-by-20-foot space is $25 if you supply a table and chairs; an 8-foot table and chairs are available for $35. There are no refunds. Tents are allowed; there is no electricity. Vendors are asked to donate one item to the Office on Aging basket auction. Checks or money orders can be mailed to: Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St., Salem, OH 44460. Proceeds from space rentals will benefit the Memorial Building. For information call 330-332-5512.

Saxon Club Branch 22 Ladies Auxiliary is looking for vendors for its fall craft show scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road. Tables may be rented for $25 through Oct. 31, when the cost will rise to $35. For information call 330-788-4274.

St. Mary’s Assumption Social Center, 356 S. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown, is seeking vendors for its Holiday Craft Show planned for Nov. 3. For information call 330-792-1578.

Women’s Guild of St. Jude Church, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana, will sponsor the 21st annual church craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 17 at the church activity center. Interested vendors can call the church at 330-482-2351 for information.

FESTIVALS/FAIRS

Harvey S. Firestone Festival of the Arts in Columbiana will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4 in the park. Artists, crafters and antique dealers, a variety of food vendors and an afternoon of free entertainment will be available. This juried show has a limit of 250 spaces. For the application fee of $75, vendors receive a 20-by-20-foot space, free parking and dealers assistance. A cash prize will go to the most attractive booth in each of the three categories. Applications must include at least three photos of previous displays.

Leetonia Artisans Festival Committee is seeking arts, crafts, antiques and collectibles vendors for the 27th annual show, set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23, rain or shine, at Leetonia Wick Park on Walnut Street. Spots are $40 for 15-by-15-foot spaces for regular vendors or $50 for food vendors. Vendor applications can be obtained at www.leetonia.org or by contacting Dan Morelli at 330-427-6741. RAFFLES

Ohio State University Alumni Club of Trumbull and Mahoning Counties is announcing its annual benefit football ticket raffle. The grand prize is two President’s Club season football tickets good for all eight home games. Second prize is two tickets to the University of Miami home opener Sept. 1. Raffle tickets are $20 each or three for $50; only 600 tickets will be sold. Proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship fund. SALES

Sts. Peter and Paul Jr. UOL will sponsor a trunk-sale fundraiser for the church’s youth group from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 21 at the Orthodox Center parking lot at 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. Participants can load up their trunks and sell items from the backs of their vehicles. Cars, trucks and vans will be assigned one spot for $10, and RVs and campers will be assigned two spots for $15. Reserve a spot by filling out a registration form and submitting payment. Ursuline Center, 4300 Shields Road, Canfield, will host a Car Trunk & Treasure Sale at 9 a.m. July 14. There also will be food and beverages, a book sale, baked goods and furniture inside the center. The cost for side-by-side spaces in the parking lot is $25; after June 30 the fee will increase to $30. All spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. SPECIAL EVENTS

Austintown Wickliffe Block Watch is sponsoring a hot-dog-eating contest June 30 at Wickliffe Christian Church, 3939 Potomac Ave., during its annual Block Party. There will be cash prizes awarded to the top winners in each of the three age groups: 8 to 12, 13 to 16 and 17 and up. The contest is open to all Austintown residents and businesses and is limited to 10 participants per category with preregistration required. The block party also is open to all Austintown residents and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a car show (no fee or prizes, just for show), a basket auction and door-prize drawing, music, games, face painting, crafts with The Green Team and safety-forces demonstrations. Junior Women’s League of Canfield is recruiting vendors for the 43rd annual Fall Market Event on the Canfield Village Green. This year’s event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15. TRIPS

E.B. Family Life Center will sponsor a bus trip Aug. 18 to the 30th African Festival in Detroit. The bus departs at 7:30 a.m. from the center at 7 S. Garland Ave., Youngstown, and return will be that night. The cost is $65. The festival will celebrate Africa and African culture at the Philip Hart Plaza. Boardman Rotary Relay for Life Team is sponsoring a bus trip to Rivers Casino on July 21. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. The cost of the trip is $30 and includes $15 in free play plus a food voucher. The bus will leave from the rear of St. Nicholas Hall in Struthers at 11 am. and return at 7 p.m. Make checks payable to Boardman Rotary Relay for Life Team and mail to Jeff Janci, 3170 Highland Ave., Poland OH 44514. Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is planning a bus trip to Cleveland July 22 to see the musical “Mamma Mia” at the State Theater. The price of $65 for members and $75 for nonmembers includes transportation and an orchestra seat. The bus will depart from the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, at 2:30 p.m. and return at 10:30.
