Religious freedom

Bishop George V. Murry will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of St. Columba, 154 W. Wood St., at 12:10 p.m. Thursday followed by an information forum on religious freedom in St. Columba Parish Hall.

Forum presenters from Catholic Charities and the diocesan Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Life will offer historical perspective and ideas for parish action and public advocacy.

Following the publication of the document, “Our First, Most Cherished Freedom,” outlining threats to religious freedom both at home and abroad, the Catholic bishops of the United States have called for a “Fortnight for Freedom,” a 14-day period of prayer, education and action in support of religious freedom.

The observance will be from Thursday through July 4, (the vigil of the feasts of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher and Independence Day). The website is Fortnight4Freedom.org.

All are invited to attend the Mass and forum. No reservations are necessary. For information, contact the Diocese of Youngstown at 330- 744-8451, ext 289.
