Texting while driving banned in Ohio

Two years ago this month, David Muslovski was walking along a Youngstown-area roadway when he was struck and killed by a distracted driver.

On Friday, his wife, Denise, and daughter, Tina Yanssens, stood in Gov. John Kasich’s ceremonial office at the Ohio Statehouse and watched as the governor signed a new law prohibiting texting while driving.

While there are MANY reasons for people being distracted, TEXTING is the one that takes more than a turn or a dial to perform.
Have you ever drove next to or behind a person texting?? While FEW have mastered the watch-the-road and text technique,, most cannot do both. They go very slow, swerve between lanes, and are clueless when they look up and the person next to them is pointing up at the light that changed color 20 seconds ago. I am thrilled this law went thru. There needs to be more education on the dangers of texting and driving. The screens are simply too small and the buttons are definately made for non-driving users. Just beware that if you are gonna text and drive, you will now be punished if you cause an accident. Hallelujah! Thank you Muslovski family, may your memories of David's death finally have some resolution and peace.

Sometimes a screen name describes the mental capacity of the poster as in the case of middlefinger!

It's about time. Friend of mine was hit from behind while at a red light on his motorcycle. Luckily he survived. Many are not so lucky.

Banning texting is a major plus, one thing Kasich has done that is not outrageous. Ohio's next step is to band handheld cell phone usage by drivers, like in NY, or NJ.

And then there's this bit: "...drive them into debt, despair, CITIES, and PUBLIC TRANSIT." I don't even understand this. More folks should move into cities and therefore keep them in shape and healthy and strong and more folks should take public transit and maybe w a l k (horror!). Go discover the rest of the country. Open your eyes.
