National Fuel customers will see gas-bill increase

National Fuel consumers in Mercer and Lawrence counties will see an increase to supply charges on their gas bill starting this month.

The Pennsylvania division of National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp. has announced its annual adjustment to gas-supply charges to become effective Wednesday. This increase raises the monthly bill of a typical residential customer annually from $73.45 to $76.87 or by 4.7 percent.

“The primary reason for this change is an increase in the charges the company must pay to bring the gas supply to our service area, combined with a slightly higher predicted cost for the commodity for the ... 12 months from Aug. 1, through July 31, 2013,” said Sandra James, director of Corporate Communications. “Even with this increase, gas supply charges will be 16.9 percent lower than at this time last year.”
