Gains calls for full disclosure in discrimination suit
Mahoning County Prosecutor Paul J. Gains is calling on his Democratic primary opponent, Youngstown Prosecutor Jay Macejko, to support the unsealing of evidence in a religious discrimination lawsuit filed against the city and Macejko.
The Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown asked a federal judge to unseal documents and audiotapes submitted as evidence in the lawsuit filed by Bassil Ally, an assistant city prosecutor of Middle Eastern descent.
“The case is over and the public has an absolute right to know what happened,” Gains said.
Ally received a $110,000 lump sum payment and a $4,000 annual pay raise as well as a letter of apology from Macejko to settle the suit. Ally contended his boss and other city employees discriminated against him based on his Muslim faith.
Both sides agreed to have the judge’s decision sealed.
“The city is looking at this and filing a response,” said William Blanchard, Macejko’s campaign manager.
Macejko is challenging Gains in the March 6 Democratic primary.

Of course Gains is calling for full disclosure - he knows Macejko is going to thump him in the primary. Gains probably put the Islamic Society up to the scheme of reneging on their agreement to seal the decision.
Like I said before - if they, or Ally, want to renege on the deal, Ally should give back the large pile of money he got as part of that same deal.
I agree.
Why should it be sealed?
"...Both sides agreed to have the judge’s decision sealed."
That is why it should be sealed.
Why would Ally give back the money? Ally didnt ask the Islamic Group to ask for this. What you people are not getting is that a separate third party is asking for the records to be unsealed. Are you guys soo uneducated as to automatically associate a muslim and a Islamic group decision?
NOBS "Like I said before - if they, or Ally, want to renege on the deal, Ally should give back the large pile of money he got as part of that same deal." Where does it say that he is reneging on his deal? Is he asking that the courts to unseal the document? NO so please learn how to read.

Save your typing fingers. These people are evidently in favor of legalizing discrimination and electing an unfit candidate for county prosecutor. Luckily, I doubt they are representative of the community as a whole.
YBR - I'm highly skeptical that the Islamic Group is acting exclusively of Ally's wishes. If they are, they have no standing in the matter, and it would not be an issue at all.
I'm quite able to read, wise guy, and also I'm able to comprehend what I read, which you are apparently lacking. Is Ally objecting to the Islamic Group who want Ally's personal, confidential agreement publicly aired? No, he's not. And are you really so desperate to spin this that you actually say Ally isn't a part of the Islamic Group of Greater Youngstown? He just happens to be a Muslim, in Youngstown, who had a confidential deal done in court, and now there just happens to be a group purporting itself to represent Muslims in the Youngstown area, which is making a public circus of Ally's confidential agreement, and that's just coincidence? Why isn't the local Italian group, or the local Slovak group, or the local Irish group, making these demands?
I don't mind your being naive, but don't make the mistake of thinking everybody is.
Gains knows that he has someone that can give him a run for his money in the elections. He is just trying to find anything he can. I think he's mad because Jay said he comes to work drunk... Why can't people just run on thier records??? Why do they always have to play dirty??
